Living Faith through Caring - Part 1

In society today, we are driven by sight, the physical, and also by feelings rather than; the unseen, or, the spiritual, and the anointing that transforms beyond the imagination.

“Now Faith”, says the writer of the Letter to the Hebrews “is the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of what we do not see” [Hebrews 11 v1).

In the last judgement, one of the fundamental measures of how we lived our lives will be in how we cared for others and especially those in need. We see that when we respond to the needs of others - it becomes our connection or our response to a higher power. [Mathew 25:35]. In our modernity or today’s culture, we find some of the examples in the scriptures for reaching out, hard to fathom, as most of these basic needs are met by social services. Wealthier nations have no problem with provision of the basic necessities i.e equal access to services, such as housing, healthcare and education and we can easily miss out on living out our faith in helping one another because welfare - a good thing to have working in any society, appears to cover and provide all.

Faith is seldom then used or walking out our Faith for basic needs becomes non essential. Yet, any service to the Creator will require a measure of this.

The letter to the Hebrews states that Faith is what the people gone before us were commended for.

Father Abraham; our greatest example of how real faith looks like, believed the creator when instructed to go to a new location even though he did not know where he was going. He was also asked to give of his son, first born, not understanding how God can make such a ‘demand’, given the difficulty, him and his wife (of past child bearing age) had to go through to having the son. What he had was true faith in the unseen and this was a credit to him as righteousness. Faith that is not Dead, but Living, acting and working.

When we care, in the most unusual and unexpected ways, - like when that portion of your abundance aka blessing is shared to help a mother, young person, father regain his position and hope for his family, we are putting the kingdom of darkness to a contest they cannot even enter, let alone win!
