The Greatest Freedom

Many years ago, while visiting someone very dear to me in prison, I learned a truth that I have never forgotten: the most serious prison is not necessarily the one behind physical bars.

There is another kind of prison—an invisible one that we can be born into, shaped by the patterns, choices and struggles passed down through generations. Without Christ, we can find ourselves trapped in cycles that seem impossible to break, until we encounter the One who came to set us free.

When He sets us free, a physical prison no longer has the final word over our lives. Someone behind bars can possess a freedom, hope and joy that cannot be taken away. Meanwhile, someone walking freely on the outside can remain deeply imprisoned within, without the Saviour as Lord.

Imagine that: visiting someone in a real prison, only to discover that the person behind the bars has more hope, more joy and more encouragement than the person who came to visit them.

That is the transforming power of Amazing Grace.

What an extraordinary freedom it is to know the One who truly sets us free.
